The Royal Northern College of Music Archives has a wonderful but little-known wealth of First World War information.
Our student registers for the Royal Manchester College of Music (1893-1973) detail the names, addresses, instruments and dates of study of all our students during this period, as well as those of the returning soldiers who were awarded bursaries by the government to retrain as professional musicians.
Our programme collection stretches back to our very first performance and cover the war in intimate detail.
We at the College are hoping to find out some of the stories of these students and what effect, if any, the war had on the kind of music that was programmed.
Keep an eye on our blog for our research updates!
